Easy Microwave Bacon Buttie

Why? It's surprisingly easy and effective to cook bacon rashers in the microwave and make yourself a hot bacon buttie at work. Give this a go and you will have your co-workers hounding you to make them one too! The recipe below uses soft white rolls but you can substitute for sliced bread to save money or use wholemeal bread if you prefer. The kitchen towel helps to soak up oil from the bacon meaning you avoid some of the excess fat.

Shopping List

  • 8 rasher pack of bacon (smoked or unsmoked to your taste)
  • 4 pack bread rolls
  • Butter
  • Paper towels
  • Tomato ketchup (optional)

How to Prepare:

Line a microwave safe plate with a few sheets of paper towel and lie 2 rashers of bacon on top, side by side (making sure that they don't overlap). Cover with another paper towel in order. Make sure you cover the rashers carefully with the paper towels to ensure you don't end up with a greasy microwave! Microwave on high for 3 minutes to start.

While the bacon is cooking butter your bread roll. After the 3 minutes is up check your bacon and if it's not quite crispy enough pop it in again for a minute or so. Then simply remove from paper towels, pop on top of your bread roll and add a splodge of ketchup to your liking.
