The Weekly Food Shop
Save money, time and effort - get your shopping done!
Enjoy more time in the evening by getting your food shopping out the way at lunchtime. Of course this will be old news to you if you're highly organised, but if you haven't been converted to online food shopping yet then here is our advice below:
- Consider the benefits - The most obvious benefit is avoiding queues and other people's screaming children in the supermarket. If you don't have a car you can avoid carrying heavy bags and if you do you have one you will save on petrol and being stuck in traffic jams. Its also a bit greener too, as one delivery van avoids many more cars making a regular trip to the supermarket. What about delivery charges though? These are often outweighed by the savings you can make online. For example its much easier to check out the special offers and add them to your basket than by hunting in the supermarket. Additionally doing your weekly shop online means you can plan more carefully and you are more likely to resist expensive impulse buys because you can see how much they add up to before you confirm your shop.
- Check out delivery charges - Many delivery charges can be reduced or avoided. Book slots at less popular times or spend over a certain amount to qualify for free delivery. Just make sure that you don't add unwanted items to your basket to qualify! A good trick is to stock up on dry goods and pantry essentials. There is a useful comparison chart which can be found on The Online Grocery Store website which compares charges and minimum orders for the 5 main supermarkets.
- Compare your shopping list and save money - It can be pretty difficult to know which supermarket offers the best deals. My Supermarket is a great resource which allows you to choose products from your preferred retailer and then will show you how much the same basket would cost with other leading supermarkets. You can also see how healthy your basket contents are, view top offers and complete your shop gaining your usual loyalty points as well as collecting additional ipoints.
